Drivers are asked to take extra care on the roads today (Thursday 8 March), following winter weather arriving in the county.
The weather was different to the forecasts, but crews from Lancashire County Council reacted quickly to this sudden change by carrying out extra gritting and ploughing early this morning to reduce the impact of this flurry.
The aim was to help the road network, particularly during the busy morning rush hour.
All priority routes across Lancashire were gritted during the night, but the forecasted sleet and snow was much denser and heavier than the forecasts had shown.
County Councillor Keith Iddon, Cabinet member for highways and transport, said "This weather affected the rush hour in some areas. We gritted the priority routes overnight, but the conditions made driving more difficult in places.
"Our crews also went out first thing this morning to carry out extra gritting, ploughing in some areas and salting work in some areas with higher footfall.
"Road conditions could still be difficult in some areas, so please take care if you are out and about."
Temperatures are forecast to increase later today.
